均等 Kintou-Do
Although CoachingShapes Trainers are mainly focused on teaching the Arts of Communication, Helping Relationships and Negotiation, they are well aware of the fundamental importance of developing the human being in the completeness of his mental, physical, emotional and spiritual functions.
Since 2012, the Trainers at CoachingShapes devised and developed a sporting methodology based on the Martial Arts, capable of stimulating and realising the global development of the Trainees. 均等 Kintou-Do is therefore a Martial Art structured following the experiences gained through Shotokan Karate, Qi-Gong, Wing-Chun and Kenpo.
In addition to being an excellent system of self-defence even in tight spaces or in ground defence, it represents an excellent source of psychophysical well-being that is shaped by rhythmic and deep breathing exercises. The spinal column is the focus of attention in this Art of physical movement as it is the seat of passage of the neurohormones responsible for sensitivity and movement, as well as being the vertical support of the human body from which the ribs branch off.
均等 Kintou-Do is an excellent system of psycho-physical de-fatigue and stress control, very useful during important moments in daily life. The Japanese word Kintou-Do means: 'The Way of Uniformity, Equality and Fairness'.
The meaning of this word applied to daily life stimulates the practitioner's attention towards the search for Mental, Spiritual, Emotional and Physical Equilibrium both internally and as a sum of values that must be generated during relationships with other people.
One must always find the "Key" to a situation or person:
- Why try to break down the other person's barriers?
- Why act to break down his doors?
- Why wear him down in order to make him drop all defences?
- Why destroy his every emotion to enslave him?
Far better is to seek and find the Key: there is a Key for every person, thing and situation.
The right Key opens the right door, without effort and without destroying anything. There is a Key to change the fortunes of a struggle. There are actually two Keys: one opens the Door of Victory, the other opens the Door of Defeat.
We have already seen how Negotiation allows this opportunity through the first and fundamental step of active and deep listening. Practising the Art of 均等Kintou-Do this happens above all inwardly by paying close attention to one's perceptions and emotions, evaluating their meaning and significance.
In a world that is distracted, superficial, not very attentive to the needs of Nature, increasingly 'in pursuit of itself' and turned to violence as the solution to every problem, it is necessary to 'slow down, stop, calm down, rest' and finally 'heal' from the many ills that afflict contemporary human beings.
均等 Kintou-Do facilitates the realisation of a psychophysical balance by generating new positive energies, regenerating our inner strength and arousing 生き甲斐 Ikigai.
It is a Japanese concept that refers to the reason why life is worth living: each of us has an Ikigai and finding it requires a long search within oneself. Every person has an Ikigai but does not always seek it out or find it. An Ikigai is essentially a reason to get up in the morning: it is something positive, something very positive, that makes us wake up every day with a smile on our faces, recharges us and gives us the necessary enthusiasm to face the day. Finding and recognising one's Ikigai is not so simple and its search requires deep introspection: it gives back the meaning of life, but a constant, long and deep search is necessary to find it. It is a term particularly heard in the Okinawa archipelago, famous for the healthy longevity of its inhabitants. Everyone in the world has a 'reason to get up in the morning', a 'reason to be happy'. One has to find the origin of the value of life, what makes it beautiful, important and worth living. When one finds the Ikigai, one finally comes to an awareness of the immense positivity of our existence, whatever form, condition or level it has taken.
In summary, 生き甲斐 Ikigai is:
- Passion towards Life and others, generative and transformative relationship capacity.
- Balance between human perceptual conditions.
- Joy and Strength in living daily life.
- Naturalness and Spontaneity.
- Positive and constructive expression of human potential.
- Research into the origin of the value of Life and one's Vocation
生き甲斐 Ikigai is the interaction of four fundamental aspects of Life:
1) What we love.
2) What others love about us.
3) What we can do for ourselves.
4) What we can do for others.
When there is a correspondence and balance between these four 'conditions of feeling' and there is harmony between them, we have found our Ikigai.
Each person can develop the ability to observe Life by giving it a deeper and more authentic meaning. It is very important to emphasise that the attitudes and behaviours associated with this concept must be entirely spontaneous: they must not be actions forced or imposed by others, but must be spontaneous and natural gestures, actions and reflections, originating from non-selfish desires.
Kintou-Do allows one to acquire the status of 生き甲斐 Ikigai and inner security and the real perception of one's own possibilities of defence in the face of physical aggression.
Summarising, the structure of 均等 Kintou-Do is as follows:
Balance, Equality and Total Conformity of the three parts of the human being united together: Mind, Body and Spirit.
Homogeneity factor: homogeneous being.
Similarity: of kind or species.
Affinity: homogeneity of ideas and actions.
- I am in Balance with myself and with the Aggressor: no fear, no thought and no distraction can diminish my Balance.
- I am Equal, in the sense of not feeling inferior or superior to the Adversary.
- I am Conforming, that is, I adapt to the attack and respond by adapting, I accompany, I follow, I model my response on the basis of the question (the aggression).
- I am able to give form and proportion to the parts of me that must respond to the attack in terms of speed power, intelligence, elasticity and movement of the body.
- I operate in such a way as to eliminate any condition of non-conformity, imbalance and inequality.
- I mirror the attacker.
What, then, is the element that can allow me to prevail if I totally mirror my opponent? Only one: the feeling of justice that I have in my heart that is good and positive, the validity of my reasons, the correctness of my motivation to be present in this place and in this time, now!.
As in most Martial Arts, the three parts united originate "Ki", that is, the Vital Energy necessary to activate and complete the techniques of defence and attack. Therefore if only one of them is missing, the "Ki" will not be achieved and will not be able to increase the power and effectiveness of the technique.
In 均等 Kintou-Do there is no attack but only defence.
